WineBarack Obama and the Emperor of Japan toast with Sandeman Sherry
The House of Sandeman is honoured to inform that the U.S. President, Barack Obama and Akihito, the Emperor of Japan, raised a toast with Sandeman Sherry during an official dinner hosted at the Imperial Palace, on the 24th of April. The two statesmen exchanged pleasantries while they drank Sandeman Sherry Medium Dry, a wine that also accompanied the Royal Consommé.
For the U.S. President, toasting with Sandeman was probably not an unusual choice. In the United States, the success of Sandeman´s Aged Tawnies and Founders Reserve Portos has built an excellent reputation for the brand, making Sandeman the leading Porto Wine brand in the country. The Japanese Imperial Court has a long-standing tradition of frequently including Sherry in official acts of this nature, thanks in part to the fact that these wines were presented as a gift, by the 1st Spanish ambassador to the Japanese Emperor, back in the 16th century.
